Global Health (Health and Well-being)

Global health is an effort to promote the health of all humanity from an international perspective and address a wide range of issues, including infectious disease control, improving access to medical care, reducing health disparities, and environmental health . Various health disparities exist around the world, and in particular, low-income countries account for more than half of all deaths, with 90% of those occurring in those countries.

The need for global health and welfare measures begins with the international spread of infectious diseases . Modern transportation has increased the likelihood of diseases like AIDS, avian influenza, and COVID-19 spreading rapidly around the world. Single- or bilateral measures are insufficient to address this challenge; international cooperation is essential.

We also need to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) . UHC aims to ensure that all people have access to high-quality health services and do not face financial difficulties in using those services. To achieve this, we need to strengthen each country's health system and receive international support. It is important to continue to cooperate with other countries to achieve UHC, while drawing on Japan's experience.

Eliminating health disparities is also an important issue. Significantly reducing the health disparities between low-income countries and other countries is crucial. This includes improving access to medicines and vaccines, educating and training healthcare professionals, supply chain management, and innovative financing. Cooperation and support from the entire international community is essential.

The Core V SDGs emphasize addressing the link between the environment and health . In recent years, the concept of planetary health has emerged as part of global health.Focusing on the impacts of climate change and environmental pollution on health, a dual approach is needed, addressing both the environment and health . This requires collaboration among experts from various fields, international organizations, nonprofit organizations, governments, and businesses.

Improving the health and well-being of all people around the world through global measures is now a key challenge for the international community.

Sustainable Urban Systems

Sustainable urban development aims to develop cities that do not burden future generations by balancing the environment, society, and economy. Sustainable urban development is achieved by the entire community through the effective use of resources, ethical consumption, corporate responsibility, changing consumer awareness, and the role of the government and international community.

Towards the effective use of resources and environmental protection

Sustainable consumption and production : Mass production and mass consumption patterns are causing environmental problems. It is important to establish sustainable consumption and production patterns.

Promoting ethical consumption : When consumers choose environmentally and socially responsible products and services, they can change corporate production patterns and contribute to a sustainable society.

From the perspective of corporate responsibility and initiatives

Resource-saving, high-quality products : Companies should aim to reduce their environmental impact and improve resource efficiency, including by using renewable energy and reducing waste.

Supply chain sustainability : Companies must work to ensure sustainability throughout their supply chains.

Utilizing consumer awareness and the role of the government

Changing consumer behavior : Consumers can contribute to sustainable consumption by being conscious of recycling, reducing waste, and choosing environmentally friendly products.
Role of governments and the international community : Governments need to promote sustainable public procurement and strengthen environmental regulations. It is important for the international community to share knowledge and technology and work together to address global challenges.

Participating in sustainable urban development

Sustainable urban planning : Reduce energy consumption and protect the natural environment through environmentally friendly urban planning.

Community Involvement : Promoting community participation ensures that urban development responds to the needs of residents.

Green infrastructure development : Public transport and green buildings will be developed to reduce the environmental impact.

Industrial innovation

Industrial development and technological innovation are essential to achieving a sustainable society. SDG Goal 9, "Build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation," aims to build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation.

Transformation through infrastructure, industrialization, and innovation will contribute not only to economic growth, but also to environmental protection and social inclusion. Working together, governments, businesses, and civil society will be able to build a better future.

1. Sustainable Infrastructure Development and Infrastructure Design:
To support sustainable cities and communities, it is necessary to build infrastructure that will serve as the foundation for transportation systems, energy supplies, and information and communication technology (ICT) networks. In developing countries in particular, the development of such infrastructure is directly linked to economic growth and social inclusion. Infrastructure development requires the use of energy-saving technologies and renewable energy. For example, new clean energy technologies such as floating wind power generation and green hydrogen technology are attracting attention.

2. International technical cooperation:
Financial assistance and technology transfer to developing countries are key to promoting sustainable infrastructure development. Support is particularly essential in Africa and small island developing states.

3. Contribution to a circular economy model and local economies.
To improve resource efficiency, it is necessary to promote waste reduction and reuse throughout the manufacturing process and supply chain. For example, Toyota has adopted lean production methods to reduce waste and improve energy efficiency. Industrialization through collaboration with local communities is also important. We will support small and medium-sized enterprises and start-ups in gaining access to financial services and markets, thereby promoting diverse economic activities.

4. Development and investment in environmentally friendly products:
Sustainable product development is also part of industrialization. For example, the development of new materials, such as carbon-negative concrete, contributes to reducing environmental impact. Technological innovation accelerates the transformation to a sustainable society. Globally, investment in research and development (R&D) is increasing, and a new innovation ecosystem is being formed.

5. Utilizing digital technologies and promoting comprehensive innovation
Digital technologies such as IoT, AI, and large-scale data analysis are contributing to improved efficiency and reduced environmental impact in a wide range of fields, from agriculture to manufacturing. Precision agriculture in particular has achieved improved productivity and resource conservation. Innovation is not just about technological advancement; it must also benefit society as a whole. It is important for companies, governments, and academia to work together to jointly develop new solutions.

The richness of the sea and land

★The richness of the sea and land

Protecting the richness of the oceans and the land is a mutually influential process. The health of marine ecosystems affects terrestrial ecosystems and vice versa. Marine pollution affects water quality on land, and forest health has a positive impact on marine ecosystems.

Efforts require the involvement of the global community, with people taking the lead in promoting sustainable development. It is necessary to utilize local knowledge and technologies to achieve sustainable resource management. Technological innovation and international cooperation are also key elements in building a sustainable future.

★ Richness of the Oceans

Life Below Water aims to promote sustainable use of the oceans and marine resources and protect marine ecosystems. Ways that companies and individuals can contribute include expanding marine protected areas and combating marine pollution. It is also important to protect the jobs of fishermen and prevent the destruction of coral reefs.

Preventing and reducing marine pollution : We aim to reduce marine pollution, such as plastic waste and chemicals, and maintain the health of marine ecosystems.

Sustainable use of marine resources : Use marine resources sustainably, including through fishing and tourism, to prevent overfishing and resource depletion.

Marine Ecosystem Conservation : Promoting efforts to protect and restore important marine ecosystems, such as coral reefs and mangroves.

★The abundance of land

Life on Land aims to ensure the sustainable use and conservation of terrestrial ecosystems. This initiative also contributes to biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation. Community engagement and intergovernmental cooperation are key.

Protect and restore terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems : Protect ecosystems such as forests and grasslands and prevent their degradation.

Sustainable management and restoration of forests : Sustainable management and restoration of forests is important. Forests cover one-third of the Earth's land surface and support a wide variety of living organisms.

Preventing desertification and reversing land degradation : Efforts are underway to prevent desertification and land degradation and promote sustainable land use.
